How We Got Here

Our founder, Jeff Shelton, joined the financial services industry over 25 years ago. He began our firm with the belief that there’s simply a better way to help people enjoy their wealth. Through his enlightened philosophy on financial planning and commitment to our firm’s core values, Jeff has grown our firm to help clients in Fort Wayne, Indiana and all across the country find financial independence.

Jeff Shelton is the Founder and President of Shelton Financial Group, an independent, local firm specializing in helping clients achieve a work optional lifestyle.  For 25 years, Mr. Shelton has worked directly with pre and post retirees to create, protect, and then distribute, their wealth using the OneLife Formula, a customized Retirement Readiness Scoring program.  Jeff specializes in creating multi-generational legacy plans for clients who recognize their stewardship responsibilities, along with assisting other retirees with their spending and giving planning..

Al specializes in serving business executives seeking sophisticated investment and life planning as well as other professionals in or approaching retirement. Al came to Shelton Financial Group after a successful career with General Electric Company in operations management and financial analysis. He began his career with GE after graduating from Wheaton College with a B.A. in Economics (1977). While at GE, he completed an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University (1985). Al is also a graduate of GE’s Financial Management Program (FMP).

A passion for personal financial planning lead Al to earn his CFP® designation in 2010. He also is Series 7 and 66 registered through USA Financial Securities. Al is licensed for Life, Accident and Health Insurance as well as Long-Term Care. His desire is to help clients pursue their goals and objectives.

Outside of work, Al has been involved in Junior Achievement as an instructor, Fort Wayne Community School’s Study Connection and community projects such as Paint-a-thon and United Way Day of Caring. He also served on the board of Chandler’s Landing neighborhood association and is a member of Brookside Church. Al enjoys tennis, gardening, reading and spending time with his family. He currently resides in Fort Wayne with his wife, Jan.

Brian is a Financial Advisor for Shelton Financial Group. He specializes in working with manufacturing executive and employee families seeking robust financial planning to create future income streams as well as those in the teaching profession seeking options for retirement.

Brian’s quest to be an Investment Advisor Representative began from his own interest in financial investing and was fueled by his desire to help others pursue their financial goals and personal objectives. Brian holds his Series 6 and 63 registrations through USA Financial Securities. Brian also holds his Series 65 and is licensed for Life, Accident and Health Insurance as well as Long-Term Care.

Brian came to Shelton Financial Group with four years of financial services experience and 20+ years of management experience with an industrial printing firm. He attended IPFW for electrical engineering and is a graduate of Woodlan High School.

Outside of work, Brian participates in the Football Boosters Club at Woodlan High School, attends St Michael Catholic Church, and serves on the parish council. For several years, he volunteered with PAL Football Program in Fort Wayne and the Dekalb County 4-H Horse and Pony Club. Brian enjoys golfing, horseback riding and spending time with his family. He resides in Northeast Indiana near Harlan with his wife, Amy.

Matt came to Shelton Financial Group in February 2017 with over 8 years of financial planning experience. He specializes in helping teachers and manufacturing professionals create a customized roadmap through their financial lives, as well as other working-class families interested in robust financial planning.

He graduated from Indiana University (IPFW) with a B.A. in Business Finance and Management (2008). While working towards his degree, Matt was also captain of the men’s golf team, which earned him the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award in 2006. A strong desire to build long-lasting relationships with his clients and help them pursue their financial goals is what led Matt to Shelton Financial Group. In 2014, that desire also drove Matt to fulfill the requirements to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner.

Matt is Series 7 and 66 registered through USA Financial Securities Corp. Matt also holds his life and health insurance licenses. Outside of work, you will find Matt on the golf course or at home spending time with his family and friends. Matt has also participated in several Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana events and was part of the 2015 graduating class of the YLNI Leadership Institute. Matt lives in Fort Wayne with his wife, Brandy, and their two sons, Owen and Ethan.

Nathan Shelton specializes in providing faith-based, or biblically responsible, investments and financial planning solutions for business professionals focused on preparing for retirement. He also provides educational workshops for younger high-income investors or those likely to inherit wealth.

He joined Shelton Financial Group in June 2017 after earning a Finance degree from Taylor University in Upland, IN. He played on the varsity baseball team while at Taylor. In addition, he served on the Student Managed Endowment team, which won a national competition for fixed income portfolio returns his senior year, earning the team a trip to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. While in college, and prior to it, Nathan traveled overseas for a variety of mission trips including to: Ghana, West Africa for leadership training, to Stellenbosch, South Africa for two months working in sports ministry and to the Greek Island of Lesvos for nearly a month serving in a Syrian refugee camp. Ministry and missions are core values in his life.

Nathan is Series 7 and 66 registered and is an Investment Advisor Representative with USA Financial. He also holds his life, health and long-term care insurance licenses. His area of focus is to help clients live their One Best Financial Life by completing a Retirement Lifestyle Plan.

Outside of work, Nathan enjoys watching, playing and coaching a multitude of sports, especially those which include his younger siblings. Nathan’s other passion is working on his family’s farm and caring for a variety of livestock, including their herd of camels.

Amy joined SFG in 1997 as the first full-time employee and has been an instrumental force in the long-term success of the organization. Amy has served in many roles for the company over the years; currently serving as the Relationship Manager for Jeff Shelton’s clients. Amy has a deep level of understanding regarding the processes and systems used by SFG and uses that knowledge to assist Jeff and the clients that he serves.  Amy strives to build a unique relationship with each client she works with and hopes to make them feel like they are the ONLY client of the firm.  Amy is series 6 and 63 securities registered, along with Life, Accident, Health and Long-Term Care insurance licensed.  Amy and her husband Greg have three children and recently moved to Fort Wayne after being a lifelong resident of Wells county.  Amy enjoys reading, crafting and spending time with her family.  Amy’s future goals are to travel more and work less; once she knows her retirement “bucket” is full enough.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and a masters from Winebrenner Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Jesse, have four children and live in Zanesville. Jason enjoys spending time camping with his family, gardening, and playing tennis.

Previously, she served SFG as the Investment Operations Manager, where she oversaw cashiering, client account administration and assisted with trading. Nicole began her college career as a student athlete at Notre Dame College; she was a member of the women’s golf and softball teams. She finished her college experience at Purdue University (IPFW) with a B.S. in Organizational Leadership and Supervision in 2010. Active in her community, Nicole is a volunteer with Junior Achievement, Junior League (President – Elect), and previously a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Nicole was chosen for the Active of the Year award (Junior League of Fort Wayne) and nominated for the Rising Star award (Association of Junior Leagues International). Nicole and her husband, Chris, have two children; they enjoy traveling, playing golf and spending time at the lake.
